With decades of expertise in public relations and content creation, Donovan Roche has earned a reputation as a masterful storyteller, strategic thinker, and trusted advisor to brands across industries. His career includes senior leadership roles, award-winning PR campaigns, crisis management expertise, and a prolific body of writing that spans thought leadership articles and cultural journalism.
As the founder of On the One (OTO), a bespoke communications consultancy, Donovan delivers strategic public relations, content creation, and storytelling services for entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses, helping them craft compelling narratives, build their brands, and drive growth.
He also serves as Chief Content Officer of the digital music magazine D-Constructed, overseeing editorial strategy and curating content that spans industry news, artist interviews, and concert coverage.
Based in San Diego, California, Donovan balances his professional pursuits with his love of the outdoors. Whether hiking along the city’s stunning coastal trails or exploring rugged mountain paths, he finds inspiration in the vibrant energy of “America’s Finest City.”
Before founding OTO, Donovan served as Vice President at Havas Formula, a national integrated marketing firm, where he played a key role in the agency’s transformation into an industry leader. During his tenure, he led teams across diverse sectors, including consumer products, technology, travel, and entertainment. His expertise in strategic program development, media relations, and crisis management helped position the agency for its acquisition by Havas and earned the firm the coveted “Large PR Agency of the Year” award in 2023. A mentor and educator at heart, Donovan has trained countless professionals, elevating their skills and confidence while advancing the communications field.
In addition to his leadership in public relations, Donovan is a prolific writer and editor. His thought leadership bylines have appeared in prominent national business and marketing industry publications including Fast Company, Entrepreneur, Adweek and MediaPost, offering actionable insights for business leaders. He has also built a successful freelance career, covering music, entertainment, nightlife, and culture for The San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego Reader, Times of San Diego, and LOCALE Magazine, among others. Additionally, Donovan served as Editor of the Entertainer and Daily Californian, and Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of SLAMM, San Diego’s original lifestyle and music magazine.


D-Constructed
Donovan founded D-Constructed, a digital music magazine hosted on Substack, in 2024. The publication covers trending topics; artist interviews and band profiles; previews and reviews of albums, concerts and music festivals; and more. As its Chief Content Officer, he oversees editorial strategy; sourcing stories; communicating with artists, labels, PR agencies, and venues; curating digital content; and engaging the music community across the brand’s social channels to extend the platform’s reach and impact.
